Panch Kedar Yatra or Panch Kedar Trek is one of the most sacred pilgrimages Yatras in India. It is a part of the holy Panch Kedar circuit. The names of the Panch Kedar Temples are Kedarnath Temple, Tungnath Temple, Rudranath Temple Madhmaheshwar Temple and Kalpeshwar Temple.
It is said that Lord Shiva's bull incarceration is worshiped in these temples. His body fell into different places when he was hiding from Pandavas when they were searching for him to atone for their sins of killing their own relatives in the war of Mahabharata. In Madhmaheshwar temple the stomach of Lord Shiva is worshipped. In Kedarnath the hump of the bull form of Lord Shiva fell. In Rudranath the face of Lord Shiva is worshipped, In Tungnath his arms fell and in Kapleshwar the matted hair of Lord Shiva is worshipped. Every year thousands of pilgrims undertake Panch Kedar Yatra to get the divine blessings of Lord Shiva.
Tour Highlight
- Kedarnath (3,583 m)- Most famous of the five, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Believed to be where Shiva manifested as a bull; his hump appeared here. Surrounded by snow-clad Himalayan peaks and Mandakini River.
- Tungnath (3,680 m)- World's highest Shiva temple. Associated with Shiva's arms. Trekking base for Chandrashila summit-stunning sunrise views over Himalayan ranges.
- Rudranath (3,600 m)-Natural rock temple where Shiva's face is worshipped. Surrounded by alpine meadows, rhododendrons, and sacred kunds like Surya Kund, Chandra Kund. Considered spiritually intense-less crowded, more meditative.
- Madhyamaheshwar (3,497 m)- Located in a lush valley surrounded by snow peaks. Worships Shiva's navel (stomach). Famous for its serene Buda Madhyamaheshwar Lake, which reflects Chaukhamba peaks.
- Kalpeshwar (2,200 m)- The only Panch Kedar temple accessible year-round. Shiva's hair (jata) is worshipped here inside a cave temple. Located amidst apple orchards and terraced fields in Urgam Valley
