Badrinath - Location Chamoli district, Uttarakhand (Altitude: ~3,133 m / 10,279 ft). On the banks of Alaknanda River. One of the Char Dham and Chhota Char Dham pilgrimage sites.Dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Badrinarayan). Mentioned in the Vedas, Puranas, and Mahabharata. Considered one of the 108 Divya Desams (sacred shrines of Vaishnavites). Visiting Badrinath helps one attain moksha (liberation). According to legends, Adi Shankaracharya established the idol of Lord Badrinarayan in the 8th century. Surrounded by the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges. Overlooked by the Neelkanth Peak (6,596 m), also called the “Garhwal Queen.†The Alaknanda River flows alongside, adding serenity to the holy town.
